Two Trump Loyalists Floated for Director of National Intelligence

Yahoo News reports the White House is considering three ‘loyal’ men for director of National Intelligence, following the quick demise of the nomination of Rep. John Ratcliffe, whose chief qualification seemed to be that he wanted to prosecute a Washington Post leaker.

The new candidates for the DNI position have their own unique qualifications.

Pete Hoekstra: Lied About His Lie

Hoekstra is a ormer Congressman from Michigan, former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, and current U.S. Ambassador to the Netherlands. Upon taking his new job, Hoekstra lied about a 2015 televised appearance in which he stated, falsely, hat there are “no-go zones” in the Netherlands where the police are scared to go because of Muslim immigrants. He lied about his lies, noted Chris Hayes.

Fred Fleitz: ‘Reform Rogue Elements’

Fleitz is a former CIA analyst, former congressional staffer, and ally of national security adviser John Bolton. He served as the Executive Assistant and Chief of Staff in the National Security Council for 6 months in 2018 and currently heads the right-wing think tank Center for Security Policy, which is best known for its Islamophobia and inaccuracy.

Last month, when a Trump supporter called Fleitz the “best pick to reform rogue elements in the intelligence community,'” Fleitz retweeted his message.
