On Wednesday, June 26, the DNC will host the first debate of the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates, featuring a diverse range of views on issues of war and peace.
For Washington governor Jay Inslee, all issues of national security come down to defeating climate change. For Hawaii congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, the central issue is U.S. interventionism, which she promises to end. Sen. Elizabeth Warren seeks lay claim to the mantle of President John F. Kennedy.
Other candidates on the stage in Miami will be:
- Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey, who defines himself as the candidate most opposed to the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement targeting Israel.
- Former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke from Texas, who staked out positions on issues of war and peace to the left of President Obama.
- Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota whose conventional worldview matches that of the U.S. national security establishment.
- Former Maryland Rep. John Delaney’s foreign policy views are built on his support for free-trade agreements.
- Former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro whose campaign is built around legalization of undocumented immigrants
- Rep. Tim Ryan from Ohio portrays China’s trade policies as a threat to American jobs and a challenge for the next president.
- New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio whose foreign policy views are largely unknown.
