Matteo Salvini, Italy’s interior minister, is the head of the Lega party (formerly known as the Northern League). He is part of Steve Bannon’s new ‘Movement‘ coalition of right-wing leaders hoping to take Europe by storm in elections in May.
L’Espresso, a leading Italian daily, says Salvini is also the recipient of secret assistance from Russia.
“Secret meetings, travel, email, handshakes and millionaires’ contracts,” L’Espresso says, are the hallmarks of this scheme. “On one side of the table one of Salvini’s loyalists, on the other precious intermediaries of the Putin establishment. In the middle: fuel.”
Those who doubt that the reality of Russian influence operations in the United States should pay attention to what’s happening with the Putin-Bannon axis. It’s not something dreamed up by neoliberals.
