Can you imagine shooting a gun just by thinking?
The resident geniuses at DARPA can. They are in the fine phrase of Sharon Weinberger, “The Imagineers of War.”
(If you’re obsessed with DARPA like me, read Weinberger’s book. The people at DARPA sometimes make the future, and sometimes fail miserably.)
Now they’re talking about mental telepathy on the battlefield.
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency recently began recruiting teams to research how AI tools could augment and enhance “next-generation neurotechnology.” Through the program, officials ultimately aim to build AI into neural interfaces, a technology that lets people control, feel and interact with remote machines as though they were a part of their own body
Those “remote machines” go unspecified but surely they would include lethal weaponry. So think and kill may be in our future.
